Discovery of oil in saudi Arabia and Middle east

Discovery of oil in saudi Arabia and Middle east
Abd-al’-Aziz ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman Al Sa’ud kingdom was important to the discovery of oil in the region. Without a stable government, oil may never have been discovered in that area and because of his conquests and the establishment of the kingdom, oil exploration was now a viable option.
1922 saw ‘Abd-al’-Aziz ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman Al Sa’ud begin to realize that oil could be a major commodity for his country. He set up a meeting with Major Frank Holmes, an engineer from New Zealand. Holmes had heard the rumors of oil seeping from the ground in that area of the world during his years in Ethiopia during World War I. Holmes was already involved in trying to set up oil concessions from other countries in that part of the world. ‘Abd-al’-Aziz ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman Al Sa’ud and Holmes came to an agreement and the king signed a concession in 1923.
